Mark 16, The Great Commission...."go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel..." Many of us are familiar with this verse. Many of us immediately think about "world missions" when we hear this verse. It's easy to become a little confused as to why we would have to leave home and become world missionaries, just because we are Christians. Well, as Christians, the majority of us are called to be missionaries to our own community. Although the people of Mystery support world missions in various ways, Jesus was commissioning us to go to ALL of the world, especially our own home town.
We should be very thoughtful and intentional about how we live our lives. How can we serve our neighbors and our community? How can we share the Gospel while being a part of the city of Joplin?
Mystery encourages its members to find productive ways to be a part of the local community, in order to egange our City for it's well being. Lives transformed through the power of the Gospel...that's our vision...it's our mission.
A few years ago, an idea was birthed for Joplin: an event each month that promoted cultural growth, family, and revitalization of downtown Joplin. Out of the process of fleshing out what this would look like, Discover Downtown emerged. Every third Thursday, downtown Joplin comes alive, and Mystery Church is blessed to be right in the middle of it by taking part in the ever-growing Artwalk.
We have had the amazing oppurtunity to be a part of supporting the local school system. We consider it a blessing to serve our teachers, faculity, and staff at West Central Elementary School.

"God wanted all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. To that end Jesus gave himself to provide a salvation from all sin for all men. In that he died for one, he died for all. Contrary to our superficial thinking, there was never a distinction in His mind between foreign and home ministries. To Jesus, it was all world evangelism." -Dr. Robert Coleman, The Master Plan of Evangelism
“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” (2 Cor. 5:14-15, ESV)
